Botti poised with smart trio

MARCH is almost upon us and Marco Botti is hoping he can further build on his encouraging start to the season over the next week or so.

Next Thursday - March 5 - will mark the annual bow of talented Johannesburg colt Splinter Cell.

Jointly owned by Mr Bulgheroni and Mr L Biffi, the horse showed more than his fair share of ability on his two outings as a juvenile.

His debut effort saw him come third at Leicester and he followed up with a comfortable three and and a half length success at Haydock over 1m last August.

Now his trainer is eyeing an extended 1m handicap at Wolverhampton as Splinter Cell's starting point for the year.

The same venue is likely to see Ceremonial Jade in Listed action over 7f on Saturday March 7. He was beaten just over three lengths on his first start of the year last weekend over 6f at Lingfield.

March 7 also sees the lucrative Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton where the Botti team were successful with Re Barolo almost 12 months ago.

This time around Whitcombe Minister may have his initial run for Marco since joining the Green Ridge Stables' team over the winter.
