Gitano set for World Cup

GITANO Hernando pleased trainer Marco Botti this morning in his last piece of work ahead of the Dubai World Cup.

Earlier today the four-year old worked over seven and a half furlongs with big-race jockey, Kieren Fallon on board.

Botti said: "Everything went well this morning. Kieren was pleased and said he felt in good order.

"We didn't want to over do it so he just did a sensible piece of work and now we're ready to go.

"He leaves tomorrow and hopefully will travel well just like he did when he went to Santa Anita.

"Next week we'll just keep him ticking over on the tapeta and maybe give him a blow-out one or two days before the race."

The Dubai World Cup has been the son of Hernando's principal target since he landed the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita last October.

He came through a prep race in the Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield last month in fine style and hopefully the strapping chestnut can put a big effort in the world's richest race, a week tomorrow.
