FIRST day of the turf season, first winner for trainer Marco Botti - thanks to Everynight.

The Rock Of Gibraltar colt, owned by Tenuta Dorna Di Montaltuzzo SRL, have a brave display under jockey Alan Munro to win in an exciting finish to the 1m 2f maiden at Doncaster.

Making just the second start of his career - he was fourth of 13 on debut last back-end at Nottingham - he triumphed by a short head and a further short to the head .

The contest was only run at a modest pace through the early exchanges with 16/1 shot Everynight held up in mid-division.

With the favourite London Bridge being asked to inject some tempo into the race not long after the turn into the straight, Everynight began to make good headway close to the far rail.

He went on to hit the front inside the final furlong and dug deep to hold on as Above Average and Classically launched late challenges.

Trainer Marco Botti said: “He fought to the line and stayed on well. He is a nice horse but I want to step him up gradually. “He is still a bit babyish and before the race he was shouting to the others in the paddock. But I’m sure this race will improve him, mentally.

“He will probably eventually stay further - it’s difficult to say from today as they went very steady early on.”

It was Botti’s ninth winner overall in 2009.
