Botti records landmark success

MARCO BOTTI’S fine season hit a new height with the Newmarket-based trainer recording his 40th victory of 2008 at Great Leighs tonight (13.11.08). Orpenindeed has been running in Class 2 and 3 handicaps all season and so when he was dropped into claiming grade (class 5) had no trouble at all in despatching his seven rivals. The only factor which could have made life hard for him in this company was a false pace, but apprentice jockey Andrea Atzeni ensured that wouldn’t be a problem as he dictated fractions from the front. With a favourable low draw, Atzeni broke well on the Giuliano Manfredini-owned five-year-old to lead straight away in the 6f contest. The 6/4f proceeded to make all and was pushed clear inside the final furlong, easily scoring by three and quarter lengths without ever facing a serious challenge to his supremacy. It was Orpenindeed’s first win in England and sits alongside three previous victories that came earlier in his career when he was trained in Italy.
