MARCO BOTTI’S pleasing start to 2009 was maintained in fine fashion with Re Barolo’s Listed victory at Lingfield on February 21.
The seven-year-old made a successful return to action as he came from last to first under a well-judged ride from John Egan in the Winter Derby Trial. Sent off the 7/4 favourite for the 1m 2f race - contested by a field of five - Re Barolo settled well at the rear as they only went a modest gallop early on. Egan switched him towards the outer as they’ve turned into the straight and he made relentless headway through the closing 2f.
Suits Me sought to tough it out on the front end, but Re Barolo edged closer with every stride and got up inside the last 10 yards before recording a neck victory. It was his fourth win since joining Botti’s Green Ridge Stables team at the start of last year and connections afterwards reported that next month's Group 3 Winter Derby - back at Lingfield - would come under consideration.
In-formBotti has now had since six winners from just 22 runners in 2009 and this was his third success in the past seven days. |
