SALTAGIOO secured his first British success when landing a handicap a Class 3 handicap over a mile at Kempton on March 19.
The five-year-old by Dr Devious, a prolific winner in Italy, finished second at Kempton last month. But on his latest assignment he went one better, scoring at odds of 11/4 in the hands of John Egan.
It was a game display by Saltagioo, who worked tirelessly down the straight to master long-time leader Viva Vettori.
Trainer Marco Botti’s charge finally won the battle inside the closing furlong and had half a length to spare at the line.
It kept up the exceptional form of the Botti string with only one of the last 11 runners to be sent from Green Ridge Stables finishing outside the first three. |
