MARCO BOTTI - Building with every year

Marco Botti's rise up the training ranks continues as the 2009 campaign demonstrated.

Marco, based on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket, enjoyed another successful season capped by a first triumph at Grade 1 level. This came thanks to Gitano Hernando's victory in Santa Anita's Goodwood Stakes and showed that the Botti team is a force to be reckoned with not only on the home front but also on the international stage.

There were other significant successes for Green Ridge Stables with Re Barolo (Winter Derby Trial Stakes) and Ceremonial Jade (Lady Wulfruna Stakes) both scoring on the all-weather in stakes company before Fiulin (Further Flight Stakes) and Electric Feel (Radley Stakes) added to the tally on the turf.

Marco is quickly establishing himself as a trainer on an upward curve and other results since he took out his licence in 2006 have proved this.

The likes of Sesmen (Group 3 Prestige Stakes, Fleur De Lys Stakes), Snow Gretel (Listed winner in Germany) and Raymi Coya (Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes, Listed Michael Seeley Stakes) have already shown that Marco can produce winners in the big races.

Since starting out as a trainer Marco has used the huge experience gleaned from being around horses since he can remember. He spent time learning with some of the biggest and most respected names in the sport.

This included three years as assistant to his father before periods with Godolphin - including six months in Dubai, Ed Dunlop and Luca Cumani. Marco can also list on his CV a stint working for Bill Mott in America.

Marco moved to his current base at Green Ridge Stables, which backs onto the historic Racecourse Side training grounds in 2007 and subsequent results both at home and abroad have shown that he is more than capable of progressing yet further in the months and years ahead.
