Grendisar Heads to Winter Derby with Conviction

The team at Prestige Place are confident Grendisar remains at the peak of his powers ahead of his bid for a third successive victory in the Betway Winter Derby at Lingfield.
The popular seven-year-old claimed the Listed prize in 2015 before being narrowly beaten by Tryster in the Winter Derby itself three weeks later. He bettered that result during a fantastic all-weather campaign last season, winning the Winter Derby Trial, the Winter Derby and the Coral Easter Classic on Good Friday.
Grendisar has been beaten on his two starts so far this season over the course and distance, but Marco is optimistic his charge can claim an eighth victory at the track this weekend. “It looks a tough race this year, but our horse is in good form and we’re looking forward to running, I’m not too worried about the form of his last two runs as the races weren’t really run to suit him. Last year it took him a couple of runs to get up to speed and I definitely think he’s as good as he was this time last year. There is a lot of money on offer now for the finals, so people are running better horses on the all-weather than they used to. It won’t be easy, but Grendisar loves the track and has always shown his best form at Lingfield, so we have to be hopeful.” Added trainer Marco Botti.
Grendisar faces some hot rivals, including his recent conqueror Battalion, for the race on Saturday 25th February.
